What I Did
We analyzed genes related to starch and sucrose metabolism and found that not only the anterior region, but the posterior region as well of the Drosophila melanogaster midgut contained genes that broke down polysaccharides.
How You Can Help
We did not have conclusive results on whether or not these genes did actually break down sugars throughout all the regions of the midgut and the reasons why this occurred need to be more researched.
