Poster : Comparative analysis of gut microbiome in marine mammals across geography

What I did : I helped build and organize the poster by creating the dataset table, finding and selecting relevant datasets, and generating the graphical abstract. I also organized the poster layout and analyzed the alpha diversity and beta diversity to help explain how the gut microbiomes differed across locations. The most interesting part to me was seeing how clearly the diversity values and bacterial class distributions changed between samples.

How you can help : This project could be improved by finding more comparable datasets that use the same sequencing and collection methods, which would make the comparisons more consistent. If I continued this project, I would expand the dataset set, standardize the analysis pipeline, and look deeper into which specific bacterial taxa are driving the differences between regions.

What I did:
Generated the galaxy workflow to create Krona pie charts and alpha/beta diversity values. Created the base template for the graphical abstract with the general structure and characteristics. Found some of the datasets. Helped find references and write/revise the poster. The most interesting part was working through workflow generation in Galaxy and getting all the steps to work cohesively.

How You Can Help:

Could help analyze data that correlates to other species to branch beyond sea lions for marine mammals. Also could help generate useful data that is consistent across many variables that could be used to look for gut microbiome differences across geography. Also, expand to more datasets and samples to try to look for variables that correlate with diversity change.
